Proxy site or VPN: what each hides

Three ways to route traffic, and what the network between you and the website can read on each.

A relay hides your address, a tunnel hides the whole conversation

A proxy site or proxy server passes your request on and shows the website its own address instead of yours. A tunnel does that too, and also wraps everything between your device and the server in encryption, so the network in the middle sees one scrambled stream.

The practical difference is coverage. A proxy usually serves one program or one browser tab; a tunnel in system-wide mode serves every app on the device.

Who sees what on each path

  • A web proxy page loads the target site on its own server, so its owner can see the page and anything you type into it.
  • A browser proxy set in Chrome sees the addresses you ask for and any traffic that is not encrypted. Pages on HTTPS stay encrypted between your browser and the site.
  • A system proxy applies the same relay to programs that respect the operating system setting, and ignores the ones that do not.
  • A tunnel in TUN or system-wide mode carries all apps; your ISP sees only a connection to the server, and the server operator sees the destinations.
  • Routing rules by address or traffic type are visible to the tunnel, not to a plain proxy, because the tunnel sits below the apps.

Where a proxy is the right size

For opening one blocked page in a browser, or sending a single scraper through another address, a relay is enough and costs less effort. Nothing about the rest of your phone or laptop changes, which is sometimes exactly what you want.

It stops being enough once you care about the café network. Apps outside the browser, background updates and anything that does not follow the proxy setting leave through your normal connection.

A short way to choose

  1. Write down what you want to cover: one browser, one app, or the whole device.

  2. If it is one browser, try a proxy set in that browser first.

  3. If a second app must follow, move to a system proxy and check that the app respects it.

  4. If you want everything covered, pick a client that offers the TUN mode and test with an IP check page.

  5. Keep the setup you can explain to yourself in a sentence.

Where this service sits

The VLESS key from the Telegram bot behaves like a proxy by default and becomes a full tunnel when your client runs in TUN or system-wide mode. The servers are in Germany, Austria, Czechia, Singapore and South Korea; no server is placed in India, so there is no Indian address to be had and no way into services that open only from inside the country.

Questions rather than verdicts are the format here for a reason: a seller wrote them, and you should be able to answer each one without our word. The first draft came from an AI model; editors then went through it against what the service actually offers. Rules on blocked content differ by country and change, so what you open and how is your call under local law and each service's terms.

Call log

01Is a proxy site safer than a free browser extension?

Neither is safer by default. A proxy site fetches pages on its server and an extension sits inside your browser; both are run by someone you have to trust, so check who and what they can read.

02Does a proxy hide my traffic from my internet provider?

Not necessarily. Unencrypted traffic to the proxy stays readable on the way, and HTTPS pages are encrypted only between you and the site. A tunnel is what hides the destinations from the provider.

03Can I use a proxy and a tunnel together?

You can, but one hides the other's job and makes faults harder to trace. Start with one and add the second only for a clear reason.

04What do I need before I can try this?

No account, email or password exists. The Telegram bot issues a personal key link in about a minute, and the trial runs 10 days free.

05Is a proxy enough for a game?

It can route the game's connection if the game respects the setting, which many do not. The same limits apply as above: no feature unlocks, no promised speed.

06Which topics come next on this site?

Pages on unblocking sites, opening banned pages, doing it on Chrome and on school Wi-Fi follow, each with the same caveat about local rules.

One lever, one link

The link arrives in about a minute, the trial costs nothing, and nothing renews on its own.
